Materials Specialist

Department: Operations and Engineering
Position Summary: Maintains optimum inventory levels of all material and equipment needed to support the construction and maintenance function of the cooperative.
Reports to: Operations and Engineering Manager
Supervises: None
Maintains optimum stock levels of various material items.
Purchases and receives all material brought into the storeroom and sees that it gets entered into material inventory system.
Records all transformers, oil switches, and oil circuit reclosers returned to the storeroom by line crews.
Takes oil sample from transformers brought back to the storeroom for PCB tab testing as needed.
Maintains daily log of poles and transformers returned by crews and determine if any should be brought back into stock for reuse.
Checks in all material returned to storeroom by contractor crews.
Builds underground meter pedestals as needed.
Unload various supplier shipments upon receipt.
Loads scrap wire bins onto scrap dealer trucks.
Performs monthly inventory of material and equipment.
Sorts materials in advance of work order/construction readiness.
Prepares and processes various stores reports, receipts, credits, transfers bills of lading and purchase orders.
Maintains transformer storage area, both new and used in a neat, orderly fashion, and regularly check for leaks.
Keeps storeroom in a neat and clean condition.
Receives UPS shipments and distributes the articles to appropriate individuals.
Assists outside contractors by pulling their job material, assisting in loading the material, and recording the quantity issued.
Compiles information to be used in requesting annual blanket purchase order quotation.
Oversees any sale of used poles, scrap materials, or new materials.
Other Duties: Performs other duties from time to time according to the needs of the Operations and Engineering Department and the Rural Electric as a whole. Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Work will be required in the office, warehouse, and material yard areas. Outside work will be required in all weather conditions with relief from extremes not always possible. Must be in good physical condition, have good eyesight, and hearing. Frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds. Overtime work will be required both after normal office hours and on weekends. The amount of overtime necessary will depend on need and may vary significantly. No minimum amount of overtime is guaranteed. Handling of toxic or hazardous materials will be required; proper training and protective equipment will be provided. Assists with outage emergencies as needed.
RequirementsSkills/Qualifications Required:
High school diploma, or equivalent, plus five (5) years of related work experience required.
Basic math skills.
Good comprehension skills.
Handwriting neat and legible.
Must possess and maintain a valid Indiana driver's license.
Capable of operating various types of company vehicles, forklifts, and other equipment.
Possess good communications skills in dealing with fellow employees, vendors, and contractor employees.
Proficient in computer use with working knowledge of NISC and Microsoft Office software
Accuracy in handling various material related records and documents.
Ability to search out and correct errors and procedural difficulties in material inventory record system.
Must be self-starter and take pride in keeping storeroom, warehouse, and grounds in top operating condition.
Ability to meet deadlines is critical.
Ability to work unsupervised.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
